Council votes to adopt variation of Limerick County Development Plan regarding Limerick Northern Distributor Road
Limerick City and County Council welcomes the result of the vote in relation to the Limerick Northern Distributor Road.
Following a lengthy and in depth debate in the council chamber in Dooradoyle this afternoon (Monday 29 May 2017), councillors voted 33 to 3 in favour of varying of the Limerick County Development Plan.
Four councillors were absent.
This variation allows for the next stage of the project – the detailed design of a Limerick Northern Distributor Road – to proceed.
Addressing the council meeting the Chief Executive Conn Murray gave a commitment that:
- Construction work on the Northern Distributor Road will not commence unless an appropriate flood relief scheme has been agreed for the Mountshannon area as part of the Limerick City Flood Relief scheme.
- Council to vary the Castletroy area plan to secure provision of access to UL Bohemians club via IDA lands.
- Establish a cross party subcommittee of council to work with the Executive and affected property owners in developing and progressing the detailed design of the road through a series of workshops and consultations and to recommend to council the final scheme design before it is submitted to An Bord Pleanala for statutory approval of any road.
